Our units are unique in the way we construct them and depending on the brand you compare, there are different levels of quality and standards of finish. All of our units are top quality - they need to be because they finish up inside your wall! All of our cavity sliders are made in New Zealand, BRANZ appraised and covered by a written 10 year warranty.

What are your units made from?

Our cavity frames are manufactured from high quality extruded aluminium and high grade renewable timber resources.

How thick should my door be?

We recommend 35-38mm thick doors for most of our systems. Multiple OvertakingDoors units are best used with 38mm thick doors. If your door is 40mm plus in thickness just ask for our Ultimate cavity slider system which can accommodate doors up to 88mm thick!

A pair of single (M6) carriages will take 120kg. If your door happens to be heavier we have heavy-duty carriages available to suit doors up to 240kg (M8) or if your door is heavier still, step up to our M10 (500kg) carriage series.

Do CS Cavity Sliders products comply with NZS 4121:2001 Design for access and mobility for Sliding Doors?

Yes, CS Cavity Sliders products can be made to comply with NZS 4121:2001. For compliance with NZS 4121:2001 standards, the centre of your handle should be positioned between 900mm and 1200mm (1000mm optimal) above the finished floor level. The door must be at least 910mm wide to allow a minimum clear walk-through of 760mm. There must be 45mm of clear space from the edge of the pull handle to the nearest door jamb when the door is both fully open and completely closed. A flat closing jamb is recommended. The supplied ‘Down to Lock’ label must be positioned as close as possible to the handle. Consult local standards for guidelines relating to the specific project.

What are Your Lead Times?

Frames to suit standard-sized doors are kept ex stock and are available for next-day delivery and in some cases, same-day collection.

Custom units take approx. 7 - 14 business days to manufacture from point of order confirmation and supply of any customer-supplied components. If your unit contains glass, non-standard doors, or powder-coated components, these can all affect the lead time. Contact us for up-to-date information on current lead times.

What is a "Track Stop"?

A Track Stop is needed when no physical stops are present, i.e., your door does not come to rest at a closing jamb or wall stud.
Example: A pair of bi-parting doors or a surface sliding track.

What is a "CS SofStop"?

A CS SofStop mechanism is designed to slow down the door. It must be paired with a physical stop such as a "Track Stop" or closing jamb to ensure the mechanism does not break.

To use the CS SofStop in your project, your door must meet minimum door width requirements. Please review the table on the CS SofStop product page to confirm that your door is compatible.

How Do I Choose the Handing of My Hardware?

1. Stand with your back against the door’s closing jamb
2. Look directly into the door’s cavity
3. Determine which side you’d like your snib (Privacy Function) or key on.

Example:
The homeowner would like to add a lock to this bathroom. Upon
positioning themselves and looking into the cavity, the homeowner’s
RIGHT hand is inside the bathroom. Therefore, the door’s handing would be: Right Hand (RH) Snib/Left Hand (LH) Emergency

Installation & Maintenance

Are there regulations about cavity sliders and bathrooms?

There are no regulatory issues to consider when installing a cavity slider in your bathroom, en suite, laundry or other wet area, but there are some practical common sense things to consider:

H3 treated jambs nogs and skirting blocks (all options available from CS).

Consider where any plumbing needs to run, as it cannot run in the pocket - consider a false wall beside the pocket for this.

If tiling, then we recommend lining the pocket with 9mm masonry board first before tiling to give the wall rigidity. Tiling your pocket or running a false wall beside your cavity pocket will require a non-standard width jamb on one side which we can easily provide for you.

How do I care for pre-finished aluminium products?

Pre-finished items should be cleaned regularly (at least once every 6 months in interior applications and more often in industrial or exterior environments) with a dilute solution of mild, neutral liquid detergent, e.g., dish washing detergent, warm water (40˚C), and a soft, lint free cloth or brush.

Do not use abrasive cleaning tools such as steel wool, hard brushes, abrasive scourers, etc., as these may damage the coating surface and change the colour or gloss levels of the finish. Rinse suds off thoroughly with fresh water and dry with a clean cloth.

It is vital that any other chemicals such as petrol, strong alkalines or acids are NOT used on any prefinished surface. Pre-finished items that are maintained regularly should retain their good looks. They will not crack, chip or peel as with conventional finishes.

For more information, please refer to the data sheet for Pre-finished Aluminium products here.

How do I remove the door from my cavity slider?
  1. Remove the Head Jamb: Choose the best side to remove the door from and remove the head jamb on that side by first removing any architraves. Hint: Make a thin knife cut where any paint joins two components so as not to tear existing paint work. Remove the wooden plugs covering the screw heads. Remove the screws holding the head jamb in place, then gently tap jamb to remove.
  2. Remove door from track: Use the extended part of the spanner to press down the plunger pin that protrudes up from the mounting plate. Once this plunger is fully depressed, slide the spanner sideways towards the plunger pin. The whole carriage (including the hanger pin) will now disengage from the mounting plate.
  3. Slide the door out of the cavity

How do I clean a cavity slider track?

If care is taken during the installation process, then in most cases there is no need for further maintenance.

The most common time for dust to accumulate is during building works. For this reason, we recommend taping up the track after installing the cavity slider, but before applying wall linings. This helps to prevent dust, debris or paint build-up during construction.

After installation, regular maintenance is not required. However, if you notice a change in the way the door runs or sounds, a quick inspection of the carriages and aluminium track running surface is recommended. The track can be cleaned with compressed air or wiped down with a soft rag.

CS cavity slider tracks feature a convex wheel channel, which causes less friction and dust build up. This also makes the system quieter and smoother running.
